Electrically Controlled Bragg Resonances of an Ambichiral Electro–optic Structure: Oblique Incidence

چکیده

The Pockels effect can increase the effective birefringence of ambichiral, electro–optic rejection filters made of materials with a 4̄2m point group symmetry, when a dc electric field is applied parallel to the axis of nonhomogeneity. The reflectances and the transmittances of such an ambichiral structure for obliquely incident plane waves is solvable through a boundary–value problem that is formulated using the frequency– domain Maxwell equations, the constitutive equations that contain the Pockels effect, and standard algebraic techniques for handling 4×4 matrix ordinary differential equations. The Bragg resonance peaks, for different circular–polarized–incidence conditions, blueshift as the angle of incidence increases. These blueshifts are unaffected by the sign of the dc electric field. c © Anita Publications. All rights reserved.

N ov 2 00 6 Theory of electrically controlled exhibition of circular Bragg phenomenon by an obliquely excited structurally chiral material . Part 2 : arbitrary dc electric field

Abstract: Numerical examination of the solution of the boundary–value problem of the reflection and transmission of a plane wave due to a slab of an electro–optic structurally chiral material (SCM) indicates that the exhibition of the circular Bragg phenomenon by the SCM can be controlled not only by the sign and the magnitude of a dc electric field but also by its orientation in relation to ax...

Higher Order Resonant Interaction of Surface Waves by Undulatory Bottom Topography

Higher order (quartet) Bragg resonance of water waves by bottom undulations and its effect on the evolution of ocean wave spectrum, particularly over continental shelves and littoral zones, are considered. Higher order Bragg resonance can provide a viable mechanism for distribution of (initially confined) energy across the spectrum. Contrary to classical Bragg resonances (Class I and II) where ...

Electrohydrodynamics-Induced Abnormal Electro-Optic Characteristics in a Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal Film

This study demonstrates for the first time abnormal electro-optic (EO) characteristics induced by electrohydrodynamics (EHD) in a polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) film in the presence of a low-frequency (1 kHz) AC voltage. Large LC droplets (20−40 μm) buried in the film can be obtained after the illumination of one UV light with a weak intensity (~0.96 mW/cm2) for 12 h. This film exhibit...

Polarization–universal rejection filtering by ambichiral structures made of indefinite dielectric–magnetic materials

Abstract. An ambichiral structure comprising sheets of an anisotropic dielectric material rejects normally incident plane waves of one circular polarization (CP) state but not of the other CP state, in its fundamental Bragg regime. However, if the same structure is made of an dielectric–magnetic material with indefinite permittivity and permeability dyadics, it may function as a polarization–un...

A Compact Hybrid Silicon/Electro-Optic Polymer Resonant Cavity Modulator Design

The design and simulation of a novel resonant cavity optical modulator incorporating a hybrid silicon/electro-optic polymer slot waveguide structure is presented in this work. The device utilizes the electro-optic polymer in the cavity region to provide an active material for modulation and includes distributed Bragg reflectors in single mode silicon waveguide regions at each end of the cavity ...
